Share Your Prayer Intentions

"The Pauline Family was born of the Eucharist" (Blessed James Alberione, Founder of the Pauline Family). As Daughters of St. Paul, our spirituality is centered on Jesus Master in the Holy Eucharist. Every day, we make what we call our Visit with Jesus. We spend an hour with Him in Eucharistic Adoration, to nourish ourselves with His Word and to intercede for the needs of others. We always pray especially for the people we meet, and for those who have asked us to pray for them. If you have any special intentions, feel free to share them here or to email them to philadelphia@paulinemedia.com and we will remember them before Jesus in the Tabernacle.

It takes a whole village of saints...

How many canonized saints and blesseds of African descent can we claim? One? Ten? A hundred? A thousand? November is Black Catholic History Month. It is a time to celebrate the rich and vibrant Catholic heritage given to us by the many holy men and women who were born on the African continent and those who migrated to the United States and other parts of the world. On October 1st 2000, Pope John Paul II canonized two saints especially dear to African and African American Catholics. St. Josephine Bakhita, who was born in Sudan in 1869, sold as a slave and became a Canossian sister in Italy and St. Katharine Drexel, who was born in Philadelphia in 1858, founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament and worked among the African American and Native American people, were the two. From both women, the fragrance of sanctity attracted people from diverse backgrounds and places.

Earlier this month we celebrated the Feast of all Saints, and soon we will be celebrating Thanksgiving. Let us give thanks to God not only for the saints who inspire us and intercede for us, but also for those who through God's providence made it possible them to grow in faith and holiness. It takes not just one, or ten, or a hundred, or a thousand, but a whole village of saints to raise us to holiness!

There are over 700 saints and blesseds of African origin in the Church. Below are the names of only a few. Let us not forget the thousands of unnamed saints and martyrs who laid down their lives for Christ and his people.

Blessed Clementine Anuarite Martyr from Congo. Feast day -December 1st.

Feast of Jesus, the Divine Master

Sunday, October 31: In addition to being Halloween, this Sunday was a special feast day for us -- the feast of Jesus the Divine Master. The Pauline Family is devoted to Jesus as the Master who is Way, Truth, and Life. Here in Philadelphia we celebrated with the lay members of the Pauline Family, the Pauline Cooperators. We had Evening Prayer together followed by delicious refreshments and a fun photo-taking session. Jesus Master, Way, Truth, and Life, have mercy on us!

School Book Fair in New Jersey

Tuesday, October 26-Thursday, October 28: We all took turns last week going to a school book fair at Our Lady of Good Counsel School in Moorsetown, New Jersey. School book fairs are another way for us to bring the Good News of the Gospel to people today. We take our books, music, and other materials and set up a display at the school. At Our Lady of Good Counsel, all the classes, from nursery school to 8th grade, took turns coming through the book fair. The children and teachers were very interested in our books, especially our books about the saints. They were also interested to know what it means to be a Sister! We thank God for this opportunity to witness to God's love.
If you are interested in having a book fair at your school, contact us by email at philadelphia@paulinemedia.com.
