We are blessed to be in the City of Brotherly Love, where the USA was born 236 years ago. courageous men risked their lives by signing the Declaration of Independence. We were at Old St. Joseph church in downtown Philadelphia this past weekend--ony a block away from the major historic sights. St. Joseph's itself is historic: the first Roman Catholic Church in Philadelphia. It is impressive to ponder that the church has existed in that alley since 1733--before the Declaration of Indepence. Thanks to William Penn's foresight and toleration, St. Joseph's remained open when some protested that the "Romish Chapel" was not of the "established" religion (at that time the Church of England.) We are grateful to the early Jesuits who founded the parish as well as the current Jesuits who staff St. Joseph's now.
